  Sailing Down The Ganges

  Delhi - Allahabad - Lakhiya - Usmanpur - Murdaghat - Mirzapur - Varanasi - Delhi

 

DAY 1 | DELHI


Arrival at Delhi. Check-in at hotel. Overnight stay at hotel in Delhi.


 

DAY 2 | DELHI / ALLAHABAD


Morning at leisure. Afternoon , proceed for a city tour of Old & New Delhi visit Red Fort, drive past the India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhawan and Parliament Building, Qutub Minar etc. Later, in the evening transfer to the railway station to board train for Allahabad. Overnight in train.


 

DAY 3 | ALLAHABAD / LAKHIYA


Morning, arrive Allahabad. Transfer to the hotel . Later, proceed to Kilaghat, the starting point for sailing on the Ganges . Allahabad is known for 'Sangam' - the confluence of three most sacred rivers i.e.Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati. Start sailing eastward towards Varanasi. Lunch to be served on boat. Covering a distance of 25 Km. (6 hrs.) of sailing on the river, reach Lakhiya in the evening. Camp at Lakhiya riverbank for overnight.


 

DAY 4 | LAKHIYA / USMANPUR


Morning, resume sailing to reach Usmanpur, covering 35 km. of sailing on the river. En-route halt at a convenient point for lunch. Due to the twist and turns on the course of the river the distance covered on sail is greater than that covered by driving. This is an added thrill. Reach Usmanpur in the evening. Camp at Usmanpur for overnight.


 

DAY 5 | USMANPUR / MURDAGHAT


Morning, resume sailing to reach Murdaghat with lunch served on board, covering a distance of about 45 km/9 hrs of sailing on the river, which is equivalent to about 35 km. by drive. Reach the camping site by the dusk . Camp at Murdaghat for overnight.


 

DAY 6 | MURDAGHAT / MIRZAPUR


Morning, resume sailing to reach Mirzapur. After about 3 hrs of sailing reach Vindhyachal, a holy shrine of Goddess Durga (the Goddess of the Vindhyachal hill ranges). This temple is approached through narrow lanes with shops lined on both sides, a typical feature of Mirzapur and Varanasi cities. After a brief visit to the shrine and lunch, set sailing for about 4 hrs. to reach an appropriate camping spot . Camp for overnight.


 

DAY 7 | MIRZAPUR / VARANASI


Morning, resume sailing towards Varanasi, en-route halting to visit the Chunar Fort near Mirzapur, and Ramnagar Fort near Varanasi. Ramnagar Fort built in 17th century, the abode of thence king of Varanasi, whose descendents are still in the part of this fort. The fort has an interesting museum in its precincts. Further, sail to Assi Ghat, where we conclude sailing. Transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Varanasi.


 

DAY 8 | VARANASI


Early morning ,after breakfast proceed to the Ghats on the Ganges for a boat cruise and witnessing the enchanting sunrise. Take a short trip through the narrow by lanes to reach the Golden Temple, a holy shrine of lord Shiva. Later, after breakfast at hotel, drive down to Sarnath, the ancient Buddhist Stupas and ruins; a place where Buddha gave his first sermon. Overnight stay at hotel in Varanasi.


 

DAY 9 | VARANASI / DELHI


Time free till transfer to the airport to board flight for Delhi.
