Anjuna is a popular beach of north Goa. It gets very busy in
Anjuna from November onwards with tourists of varied types
flocking to this otherwise simple village. The atmosphere here
during the peak season surprises as it a favorite destination of
the hippies and backpackers since the 70's. Anjuna gets inundated
especially on Wednesdays with folks of backpackers,
round-the-world travelers, etc. for the famous flea market that
has become a must visit event for anyone traveling to Goa. The
merchandise mainly consists of jewellery, clothes, appliqué work,
papier-mâché boxes, turquoise bracelets, you name it and you find
it there. Accommodation in Anjuna is not as furnished as one would
find at other beach destinations of Goa. but nevertheless finding
a place during peak seasons can be really difficult. There are
guest-houses and small average hotels who would rather welcome
someone willing to stay for a couple of months. Same with the
restaurants, although there are plenty of them along the way.
Calangute Beach
Baga is basically an extension of Calangute, located about 10 kms.
west of Mapusa which is the nearest town. A hideous concrete
bridge north of Baga across the river, transports you to a much
quieter part of Baga. Over the years Baga has developed more
rapidly and you will find hotels and restaurants all along the
main road.
Calangute, known
all over the world for its scenic beauty is located 16 Km from the
capital. Goa's most busiest and commercialized tourist spot.
Though heavily developed by Goan standards, Calangute is not yet
the high-rise hell that many Asian resorts that have become in
recent years. The odd party of prurient day-trippers still arrives
from time to time. Calangute is chock-full of places to stay, and
demands only outstrips supply in the Calangute-New Year high
seasons; at other times. Most of the inexpensive accommodation is
in concrete annexes tracked onto the backs of family houses. Here
in Calangute the restaurants and bars are mainly grouped around
the entrance of the beach.
Candolim Beach
CANDOLIM is a sedate resort, appealing in the main to middle-age
package tourists, mostly from UK. Candolim has plenty of pleasant
places to stay, many of them tucked away down quite sandy lanes
and better values than comparable hotels in nearby Calangute,
making this a good first stop if you've just arrived in Goa and
are planning to head further north after after finding your feet.
Colva Beach
About 6 Kms. from Margao, Colva beach is the pride of Salcete and
the rival to Calangute by its scenic splendor. Here sand, sea and
sky blend in enchanting natural harmony unspoiled by men. It has
good accommodation facilities with finest restaurants, shacks,
night hangouts. It is a perfect place to spend your holidays for a
first timer. There are hotels, that provide comfortable rooms and
restaurants that serve delicious dishes.
Dona Paula Beach
Dona Paula takes its name from a viceroy's daughter who threw
herself off the cliff, when refused permission to marry a local
fisherman. Located 9kms south west of Goa's capital, Panaji. Dona
Paula divides the Zuari and Mandovi estuaries and provides
pleasant views of Mormugao, the port city of Goa. Due to its
proximity to the capital Panaji, Dona Paula is a popular stop for
the sight seeing tours. This has lead to mushrooming of hotels in
and around Donapaula.There are boating facilities for those who
dare to venture in the waters. The official residence of the
Governor of Goa, Known as Cabo Raj Bhavan is situated on the
westernmost tip of Dona Paula. Along the road leading to this
place lies the ruins of the small military cemetery the British
built at their brief oKOLKATApation of the Cabo, to deter the
French from invading Goa
Majorda Beach
Majorda beach is about 2 kms north of Colva. A number of hotels
have been built in the close vicinity of Majorda, offering a wide
choice of resorts, less luxurious accommodations, and even old
houses that can be rented, for a longer time period. For those who
prefer to move on their own, you can hire a bike for a day or two
and explore the village. Along the road that leads to beach you
will find shops, boutiques and restaurants
Palolem Beach
About 42 kms. from Margao, Palolem beach is an impossibly
beautiful palm-fringed cove of white sand unspoilt compared to the
beaches of Salcete and north Goa It is fast emerging as a popular
spot for day-trippers from Colva and Calangute . Just west of
Chaudi it is one of the most enchanting beaches in Goa relatively
deserted, with backdrop of western ghats situated in Southern
Taluka of Canacona. This recent find is fast developing into a
tourist destination with springing up of hotels and hotels. There
are restaurants, travel agents some even provide facilities like
boating, money exchange, internet surfing and e-mail facilities
